Scale select problem.

Hi All.

I'm experimenting with the page scale restriction feature and I've got a problem maybe someone can help me with. I have an ascending C minor scale playing and I restrict the page to Cm (C D  Eb F G Ab Bb C). If I raise the pitch of the track/page by a whole tone I expected to hear the D Locrian mode (D  Eb F G Ab Bb C D), C minor played from D to D but instead I end up with quite a few notes doubled (D F F G Bb Bb C D) which leads me to suspect that the notes are always moved up, D is moved to E which is not in the scale, so the Octo moves it to F. Is there any way to correct this behaviour?

Thanks.

Hi, I’ve got this on my list of bugs to reproduce. I’m a bit distracted but I’ll have time to confirm it later this month.

Hi,

I tried this out myself running the most recent (unreleased) code >v5.0. When I change my track/page pitch to D, by incrementing the track pitch by 2, I get the exact notes in the scale that you expect (D Eb F G Ab Bb C D).

I can conclude that this is either fixed in the latest version, or you are running a different experiment than I have run. I assume that you're running OS v5.0. If not, try upgrading. Otherwise, write back and describe exactly what you did to test this and I'll do the same.

Best,

Eric

I went a little further and recorded 12 notes in ascending order, then checked the step tones in the circle section. I did this while the page was set to play the Cm scale. When I view the steps I see the tone as it was recorded, on the chromatic scale. When I play the track the steps play the Cm adjusted tones. When I increment the track pitch +2, I see the same 12 consecutive tones starting with D in the chromatic scale.

I don't have my DAW turned on right now to read the notes that are played by the Octopus. Are you saying that the "adjusted to scale" notes that are played back are incorrect? If so, that may be easy to fix.

Hey Eric.

Sorry for the late reply. I am not running the latest version so it may be a bug that has been fixed by now, I'm summoning up the courage to upgrade, I have Zterm at the ready, just need a few more weeks of summoning...

Sorry Eric I completely forgot about this. What I'm doing is restricting a page to the notes in Dm, (D E F G A Bb C) and I have a scale ascending through these notes in a track. I grab the track selector and rotate the PIT knob one click, I presume this is a semitone up, I would expect to hear something odd at this point it being Eb now, however I get E Locrian (Dm doing E to E). If I click up one more semitone I get E G G A C C D E. If I keep rotating the pitch knob, sometimes I get the modes I would expect, other times I get more doubled notes. Hopefully that's clear, let me know if you want a page example as a sysex file.

At a loose end so did you the sysex file, the pitch offset increases by one as you descend the page, it goes into page 16/9.
