Octopus + Daw Setup

Forgive me if this seems basic to you all but I want to make sure I am doing this correctly.

I want to hook up Octopus to a Daw and sequence VIs and also sequence external synths.

I have several Midi Time Pieces XT I can use (8 in / 8 out).

let's say I have 9 tracks on the DAW each with its own VI. I want to use each of the 9 tracks in the Octopus to sequence each of the 9 tracks in the Daw each with a different VI.

So Octopus Port 1 would be used for sequencing in the DAW, and port 2 to sequence 14 external synths I already have connected on one of the MTP with a configuration made in MOTU's Clockworks so that the MTP port 1 is connected to all 8 MTP outputs and then I would use the mute function so that output 1 on the MTP only sends data on channel 1, output 2 only sends data on channel 2 and so on.

Can anyone give a step by step guide on how I would need to set this up with the external synths and a DAW? I use Logic, PT, LIVE, DP, Cubase, Nuendo.

Thank you in advance.

Carlos

Hi Carlos,

Everyone has unique equipment so we can probably fill in blanks. I know member: stratblue works primarily with a DAW. This attached diagram may be helpful. There were some timing and clock signal considerations when I setup MIDI Master or Slave with my Octopus and Logic Pro X. I needed to use two different MIDI to USB routers. We also have an experimental OS version for the Octopus and Nemo that allows you to "anti-echo", i.e. disable MDI CC feedback loops.

Cheers,

Eric

Thanks Eric. I'll see if I can figure this out.
