Hi there.

First of all, thanks for all the hard work on the OS, it's really appreciated now the Octopus is my go to musical gadget these days. Secondly, I must be a bit stupid because I went through the update procedure and now when I start up while holding down 'esc' I see 6 red lights around the outer circle so I'm assuming this means OS6, the update procedure went as described in the pdf. However looking through the pdf titled 'Octopus Release Notes & User Guide v6.0' I can't seem to access any of the features described, for example at the bottom of page 6 'Misc. Capabilities' clicking the tempo button on mine changes the progress circle from red to green rather than halving the tempo. I haven't tried all features but quite a few and I can't get any to match the manual.

Thanks.

Hey, sorry about the confusion. I'll update the manual to specify which extra features are only available in SoloRec View. A general rule of thumb will be that almost all of the v6 features are SoloRec only. To get into that view go to the Grid View. While the sequencer is stopped, press PAUSE. I put the new features in here so that I wouldn't need to contend with the existing UI. You'll need to select a grid page and pick the number of bars, record some midi notes with an external keyboard, and then most of the new capabilities will light up for you.

There are two known bugs that I'll be fixing soon. Undo notes sometimes show up when you hit play. You can double click "X" for undo-clear or just undo as a workaround. And with Play Along pages, if they use the same MIDI channel as the channel you are recording into then the Play Along notes will also record.

Best,

Eric

Hey there.

I have been trying out OS6 but unfortunately my TR8s will not keep time with the Octo running 6, it will drift to 16th note out in no time. I have just downgraded back to 5 and it syncs up perfectly, nothing else in the setup I'm using was altered. Not sure if it's at all relevant but in 5 one click of the 200 button activates clock send, it takes two clicks on 6 to get to the same state, green illumination comes before yellow.

Nick.

Hey Nick, that was a huge help! I've been working a lot and recently have been switching some gear around and did notice a timing issue but thought it may be a latency resolution issue. I spent 4h yesterday going through all of my code using Logic Pro as my test, which clearly showed the issue. It turns out that one of my last commits (also just before I had to focus on work) was to merge from master. When I reverted that merge the timing bug went away. I didn't go as far as to debug further because I had already spent my Saturday tracking down the issue.

https://github.com/genoqs-community/source/commit/6caa545edb19b451154ec24534c56a44e789c6e6

Next steps:

  1. I have no plans at this point to merge the master branch back into my Cuttlefish branch - yes, if the timing bug is fixed
  2. I still need to fix the two bugs that I mentioned
    1. I don't yet know how to reproduce the undo bug
    2. The Play Along same MIDI channel bug isn't really a bug, so I may not fix it

Here is the latest ELF which runs but hasn't been checked for any regression issues that may have been caused by the master revert.

https://github.com/genoqs-community/source/blob/6caa545edb19b451154ec24534c56a44e789c6e6/OCT_OS/octopus.elf

See the attached screenshots for proof that the timing bug is real and is now fixed. Thanks again!

The before timing test showing crazy note overlap when recording a 4x4 loop.
