@eellis this is exactly what i did. i loaded everything i could find on genoqs including the forum and any pdf into my claude workspace and taught it all about the machines by many q and a sessions as well as giving it context for how the code and the documentation differ/work together.

its wild how much you can get done with all this. i was creating multiple features per day with very few bugs (mostly just LED stuff), it was wild

Very cool! I've been thinking about doing the same thing to fix the timing issue in my feature branch. The codebase is small enough for the AI to generate context `.md` files about the code and use that to make just about any change within minutes. I'd feed the AI the manual, then tell it to create a plan to run across several sessions to generate the context files with a root context. Then when you want it to do something just load the root context file and it will load whatever else it needs, context, code.

Maybe ask it to write an emulator harness with unit tests for every feature/capability. Then ask it to rewrite all of the code in Rust. Then ask it to write a VST UI to use it as a direct MIDI controller in a DAW for high resolution and zero latency grid recording... The ideas keep coming.

we use Claude at work so i decided to let it take a crack at genoQs code.

it worked!

so after years of wanting to make a few changes like adding the flow shapes from NEMO and incorporating a better chord mode, and bringing back some older features we are now here. i will share the actual elf and code once i have time to make sure more bugs have been ironed out. right now all these features run and dont crash, there are a few small things i have to fix with LEDs either being lit or not lit.

I have noticed that if I set up a midi map the way I want it, say CC07 10 channels 1-9 amt=100 on map 0, then do a full machine state sysex dump, the map has gone after the dump. If I then set up the map again, do the dump again, it remains.

Hi, I’m not in front of the Octopus 🐙 at the moment and I know this isn’t super useful but I think the gist of it is that the front panel was printed before the operating system was fully realized/implemented. I’m sure there was a list of design ideas and some of them didn’t make it in - hence extra labels that have no UI function. Some of the obscure LEDs are just indicators while buttons are held down, or when a selection is activated. I don’t think you’ve missed any subtle modes or interactions.

There are quite a few labels on the octpopus panel that i have failed to see mentioned in the past and i would love to know if anyone has insight into this:

1. above the top row of the grid step 1 and 2 are labeled r1 and r2, step 15 and 16 are labeled r3 and r4?

2. the outer circle have roman numeral designators that i dont believe are mentioned in the manual?

3. there is an ALL LED below the left column of MIX knobs?

4a. there is an ALL LED with two symbols around is below the right column of EDIT knobs?

4b. the symbals around the ALL LED are next to VEL, PIT, LEN, STA, and POS knobs

5. MCC LED above the EDIT button?

ive been using this sequencer for years and have just never really payed attention to these things and am just not fully sure what they mean or do.

Functionality suggestions.

Hi there.

I've got a couple of suggestions for The Collective to consider. It would be great if the page sets buttons behaved in the same way as the page buttons, I'd like to be able to engage 'page follow' for the page sets and I'd like to be able to specify the number of repeats a page set manifested before moving on. This way much longer song structures could be made and it would be effectively a song mode that requires no button presses.

Another suggestion, not sure how feasible it would be has occurred to me as a result of using my TR8s drum machine. It has the 'page set follow' behaviour I described above but what I didn't realise until recently is that the program changes it sends out as it switches patches seem to be sent slightly early and this has proven to be invaluable for switching page sets on the Octo and switching sequences on the MPC. The Octo and the MPC send theirs right on beat 1 and so anything being controlled by either of these is always at least 1 bar late changing.

I was about to sell the TR8s but its invaluable for now because of this functionality.
